Here is the second try - I removed "Minas's" as nobody likes them, removed "Dol Erain" as questionable and maybe incorrect and added Val's "Dol Mithlad"
Dol Mithlad - the "mithlad" part meaning, "misty valley" or something like that - and referencing back to "Mitheithel" - the Sindarin name of the river, and the lands associated with this "princely" family.
Dol Hithaer? (As it is close to Hithaeglir=Misty Mountains) Dol Imlad? (As it is in the valley=Imlad)

Dol Mithlad - just like how it sounds- but the owner has the final say, of course

Please vote - you are not obliged to give any explanations. But there should be 9 votes here (with Odare's extra voice) ;D Annarima- you too, please! I have voted for Dol Hithaer - I like the sound of it. But I like Mithlad almost as much.

Voted for the "Dol Mithlad" PS: I definitely think we should use the "Dol Hithaer" someplace - if it doesn't win this. I sort of like it too.

I was looking at the 'ten recent posts' and thinking "hang on, didn't I vote already?" and just feeling horribly confused. Anyway, Dol Hithaer has now one vote more. Just one more tiny nit-pick, Gordis, if permitted, but doesn't 'mith' mean 'grey' instead of 'misty'?

Eärniel - you might be right, but you'll have to blame me instead of Gordis. She got that (bad?) information from me. EDIT: I'm sure you're right... mithril, Mithrandir, etc. But - I still like "Head/Tower of Grey Valley" - still in large part because of the tie with "Mitheithel"

I think that Misty="Hith-" (Hithaeglir, Hithlum) while Mith = Gray Thanks for corrections, Earniel. Sindarin is not our strong point, it seems. ;D I am sure you must also be right that Dol=head (while everyone knows that Minas=tower). Indeed all Minas-something fortresses are on rocky mountain shoulders (both M Tirith and M Morgul),or on islands (Minas Tirith on Tol in Ghauroth) while Dol-fortresses seem to be atop a single hill - like Dol Guldur atop Amon Lanc. Interesting why atop the Weathertop -Amon Sul - the fortress has the same name, not Dol Sul or something?

Heh, languages aren't my strong point either, not at all in fact. But the things I do know I will display proudly. ;D The things I do to look smart... Interesting tidbit about Amon Sûl... Perhaps they started using only the name of the hill again, after the fortress was distroyed? Could also merely be an oversight of Tolkien.
