Yes, those things sound very feasible - thanks! All of that is "politics" and geography to me, which my math-oriented brain has trouble with, so that's very helpful. I'll go with that, if no one objects or sees any problems with it. I don't think Caelen would be Tarniel's guard - she's just into horses and doesn't know how to fight. I think we should give Wilwaren a nice death scene with Earniel's permission (I've asked her a few times about continuing here, but it just isn't working for her ) I've been wondering where W. is, as I re-read the story - we prob. should have been writing her into the story in the background, as it makes a reader wonder if she's died or run off or is just shamelessly ignoring her duties. Also, a general question - you guys seem to have things all worked out, even to Tarniel's death. This rpg is not like Wraiths was - you already know the ending! So what's in it for a "good" character? Since the major storyline is already plotted out, maybe we should plot out a few minor storylines where some of the good guys get some victories, too. My characters are not strong ones, like Gimilbeth, Broggha, and the WK (!!!) are, but they're more like Sam and Frodo, and "little" good guys getting some big victories is a big theme in Tolkien. I'm not saying Caelen should borrow the "No man am I!" line from Eowyn but seriously, what are you guys willing to grant them (and Arinya) in the storyline?

Oh nooo...! don't kill our Witch-King! ;D He has another 1,5 thousand happy years yet to live! And then it will break our hearts... But, seriously - what do you want to achieve? I can't see anything global ... maybe saving the Palantiri? Do you want to do that?

Yes, I know it's hands-off for your beloved WK but hopefully we can give him a spot of trouble, and maybe we can help bring Broggha down (what are your plans for him, anyway?) and give him some trouble - things like that. Nothing on the scale of destroying a Ring of Power or anything ... Saving the Palantiri might work, too ... I'll think on that and the other things.

Rian,
The framework for this roleplay is Val's story, and, of course, the larger background is Tolkien's LOTR. There's not much positive coming up for the Rhudaurians in the near future. Actually, it gets worse for them. The next thing in Val's timetable is:
"Instead, he seized and took to wife for himself the youngest daughter of Tarnendur, who was then only a girl of 15 (by which time most maidens of the hill folk had married). He then systematically saw to it that the sons of Tarnendur, and any other of his family who might lay claim to the throne, were eliminated, but always by subtle means – one being struck down while at war, another accidentally slain when his horse fell into a gorge and yet another would fall sick and not recover. Finally, he rose against King Tarnendur and struck him down – and he claimed the throne for himself by right of his marriage to his daughter."
In the present story, Tarniel is 14 and the year is 1346. Things keep getting worse for Tarniel. As a matter of fact, eventually, all of Rhudaur and the North will cease operating as a kingdom.
"...young Beleg of Arthedain, who was son of the Heir to King Malvegil and who would be crowned as ‘Arveleg’, gathered the sons of the Princes of Fornost and of Tyrn Gorthad and the three of them rode into Rhudaur, late in the year 1348, to discover what they might. They stole into the royal fortress and rescued young Tarniel, wife of the hill king, and her companion the young princess of the House of Hoarwell, also last of her line. While escaping, Tarniel halted at the Great Bridge over Hoarwell and cast herself in, for she had despaired because of the child she carried within her."

Keeping Val's story outline in mind, I don't see any reason why the Tarks can't have some positive moments in all this catastrophe. However, this might be more difficult to achieve, but who knows how many stories about individuals could be written in all this panorama. I say go for it, even if it is some small victory.

I guess part of the problem is that I've never read Val's story ... (um, where is it?)

Rian, I thought Val's story was archived at Entmoot under Writer's Workshop. I just went there and looked but I couldn't find it. I don't think I'm looking in the right place. I also looked at our old section and read down through "Where it all began" and couldn't find a link. Val? Where is it? The link needs to be added to our links section.

Rian, I hope things are going well for Val, too, and he can soon rejoin us. A month or so ago there had been a mention about his archiving some of his materials here. I am all for it. In the meantime, a link to Val's story would be very helpful.

I am afraid this post got buried in this thread unnoticed - so I repost:
I think it is high time for Elfhild to post something about Nauremir. Will he wake this night in his coffin near the fire? Or do you plan something for later, Elfhild? Just tell us - to wait for you to post or to continue on...
