Congratulations - we are on the new site. I think it is an appropriate time to start the third part of our RPG.
I have taken the liberty to put some order in our rolplay threads, naming them The Shadow over Rhudaur I, II, and III. The first is "Runnings", the second I propose to call "Intrigues and Sorcery" and the third "Perilous Journeys," as it will mostly be about Gimilbeth's travel to Amon Sul, the orcs in ambush, the wandering Dwarves who will rescue her, and also my golden-haired traveler.
Sure, any other suggestions are MOST Welcome! It takes a second to change the RPG name.
I think we can abandon the things at Cameth Brin for some time and concentrate on these developments. Then for instance, Elfhild, free for a time from Aewen and Tarniel, would be able to play some orcs. Also someone will do well to take Nauremir - perhaps she may be interested?
Serenoli will have Hurgon and the dwarves, leaving Odare in peace for some time. I will have Gimilbeth and "Glorfindel". Angmar gets all the baddies and the general planning of the ambush.
Val, I hope, could post something more about his Rangers, who went hibernating even before the first snow has fallen.
That is what I propose. What do you think?

Sounds good to me. Dwarves... I'd forgotten all about them. I have to put on my thinking cap, find names and stories for them, I guess. Hurrah, new journeys! Please tell me that isn't REALLY Glorfindel!! Oh, he's creepy... Poor Hegga. But I love the mystery...

So, I suddenly came across something that I never thought much about before. Now I know the movie said something about dwarf-women having beards too, but I wanted to know if that is supported by canon. Also, seeing as these dwarves are one of those Wandering dwarves, traders and nomads, driven from their old homes etc, they would no longer have a nice mountain to hide their womenfolk in. So it makes sense the women will be travelling right alongside. In which case, I have to figure out just how 'rare' Dwarf women are. But then, so many of these dwarves seem to have only one son, not an entire tribe, so there must be more dwarf-women than is suggested by the word 'rare'. Give me your opinions. ALL.

I think it is not really canonic about the dwarven women having beards... Tolkien said they resemble young dwarves - so they look like unattractive, but beardless to me. But if you like them to have beards just go on. I don't think anyone will be much upset here! And Ohh, Serenoli, sure you didn't really think that I would introduce an Elf, did you? No-no, Elves are not my favorites... If you want Glorfy, just play him yourself! But if our Elven Lord ever ventures in Northern Rhudaur he risks being lynched!

Sounds good to me. Dwarves... I'd forgotten all about them. I have to put on my thinking cap, find names and stories for them, I guess. Hurrah, new journeys! Serenoli, here are some names for Dwarves that Tolkien used, but actually most are from Old Norse. The Dwarves kept their own language secret and adopted the names of surrounding cultures. Since most of the Dwarves were in the North, they assumed the names of the Northmen (Old Norse). THE DWARVES NAMED IN THE HOBBIT AND LOTR Balin Bifur Bofur Bombur Dain Ironfoot Dis Dori Durin VI Dwalin Farin Fili Floi Frar Frerin Fror Fundin Gimli Gloin Groin Gror Kili Loni Nain Nar Narvi Nori Oin Ori Thorin Oakenshield Thorin Stonehelm Thrain I Thrain II Thror THE DWARVES NAMED IN THE SILMARILLION/UNFINISHED TALES (There might be more but right off the top of my head, I have come up with these) Mîm the Petty Dwarf and his son, Khîm (He had another son but I can't find his name) The Petty Dwarves (Noegyth Nibin) became extinct in the First Age. Just a note - "The curse of a dwarf never dies, they say ..." - Narn I Hîn Hurin, Unfinished Tales, p. 102 Hope this is helpful.

"So, I suddenly came across something that I never thought much about before. Now I know the movie said something about dwarf-women having beards too, but I wanted to know if that is supported by canon." - Serenoli I have seen the topic of "Do female dwarves have beards?" discussed in many forums. The movie was actually correct on this matter, but the quote where Tolkien states that they have beards is in some of the materials which were never published in his lifetime (the History of Middle-earth series, published by his son). The "official" canon (the Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and the Silmarillion) does not state one way or another if the dwarf women have beards. I guess an author, if he or she does not like the concept of bearded women, could disregard this material, since it is not in the official canon. Tolkien himself rejected the beard section in the published LOTR, but the reason why - whether it was due to space concerns or because he changed his mind about dwarf women having beards - I do not know. Unfortunately, I cannot remember in which HOME book the quote can be found. It isn't the most well known quote, and many Tolkien experts do not even know of it. This is what the ROTK appendixes say about dwarf women: Dis was the daughter of Thrain II. She is the only dwarf-woman named in these histories. It was said by Gimli that there are few dwarf-women, probably no more than a third of the whole people. They seldom walk abroad except at great need. They are in voice and appearance, and in garb if they must go on a journey, so like the dwarf-men that the eyes and ears of other peoples cannot tell them apart. This has given rise to the foolish opinion among Men that there are no dwarf-women and that the dwarves 'grow out of stone.' It is because of the fewness of women among them that the kind of the Dwarves increases slowly, and is in peril when they have no secure dwellings. For Dwarves take only one wife or husband each in their lives, and are jealous, as in all matters of their rights. The number of dwarf-men that marry is actually less than one-third. For not all the women take husbands: some desire none; some desire one that they cannot get, and so will have no other. As for the men, very many also do not desire marriage, being engrossed in their crafts. - Appendix A, p. 630 There's a whole section "Of Dwarves and Men" in the HOME book "The Peoples of Middle-earth." I think this is the book that has the bearded women section, but I cannot remember the page. Here are some links on dwarves: www.thetolkienwiki.org/wiki.cgi?FAQ/Dwarf_Womenen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dwarf_(Middle-earth)(You'll have to copy and paste the last address, because the forum keeps cutting off the part in parentheses) I hope that this helps!

I have just posted for the two nervous spies. I think for a while now they will lie low and keep out of trouble. Considering that the Witch-king can wield a lot of power over the weather, I have included that idea in Belzagar's parting remarks. Whether we want to go anywhere with this concept or not is one that is worth thinking about.
