Hey, I just got a rather interesting idea - maybe the elves will come by and watch Hurgon paint, and then finish it for him while he's in a drunken sleep! Then he wakes up, and wonders "did I do that?"

Sounds good, Serenoli - send me a message when you get done, and I'll help out with Duilin and Thurisind's responses.

Apologies for my long absense. I got distracted by shiny things. I've went a little further with the food-shortage theme that Val touched on briefly when the delegations arrived. I don't remember seeing a name of any steward working for Annundil, but I reckoned Narian would never go with a supply-problem directly to the Warden. A lower echelon, such as a steward seemed more likely. Val, if you have a proper name to substitute, give a yell.

Earniel, wonderful post. Loved the ref to living "in the shade of the Palantir Tower" And it is very funny to learn how the ordinary people felt about the Stone "Narian, vehemently disliked the idea that people could effortlessly and unseen spy in her kitchen or bedroom" ;D That makes me wonder, was it really technically possible to look into Narian's Kitchens and in her bedroom? I think not - too close a range for a warden to spy on his sweetheart undressing or on the kitchen boys stealing wine in Amon Sul cellars. But if a warden's sweetheart is in Fornost... that becomes quite possible. Maybe the chief Warden had a habit of going through the stored files on the stone harddisk occasionaly - to make sure none of the younger wardens used the stone to watch porno. ;D What do you think?

Have filled in reply no 35 in Storms over Weathertop, with Hurgon's tale. Any edits? Great post for Kirael - I was laughing a lot at the comment Gordis has highlighted... and about what the cooks had to say about Hurgon. And, Rian, the painting is already finished, except for the lacquering and what-not. But Gordis in one of her posts by Gimilbeth threatened to have Hurgon paint the Warden or some other lord, (I forgot who, exactly) to keep him out of mischief, and if she hears any of the gossip he's been spreading, she will probably carry out her threat; so we still have the opportunity to carry out your idea ;D

Gordis - LOL!
Serenoli - that could be fun - let's keep it in mind! *scampers off to read post #35*
EDIT - Serenoli, that was absolutely brilliant! I loved how he couldn't quite stop the long word without help from Callon! Just a wonderful post!

And it is very funny to learn how the ordinary people felt about the Stone I went out on a limb here, and hope I didn't interfere with anyone's plans in that aspect. It seemed logical for the locals to know very little about how the palantirs work. Maybe the warden makes sure to keep it that way, the prospect of possible unseen supervision by the boss would make sure everyone always behaved! I don't remember anything in the essay on Palantiri concerning too close a distance. Memory's always unreliable on stuff like that. And I remember on the 'moot someone brought up the theory that Denethor used the Palantir to keep an eye on Pippin in Minas Tirith and no logistical problems were mentioned then. But if you have to look from the south-side of the Stone to look North, maybe you have to look from the up-side of the Stone to see the things happening below at the tower? ;D Not very practical, I'm afraid. And looking up the skirt of a sweet-heart would then be out of the question! LOL! Just imagine if he finds one of them has been peeking in on the warden's wife taking a bath and that image is stored for eternity on the palantir! Bet he would have loved Fëanor installing a delete-button on those stones. ;D Great post for Kirael - I was laughing a lot at the comment Gordis has highlighted... and about what the cooks had to say about Hurgon. Clearly Narian has developped a soft spot for him. I'm sure he'll be welcomed in the kitchen soon enough. Loved Hurgon's story! The poor guy's gonna get himself in a lot of trouble if Gimilbeth finds out...

There is this obscure note 18 in UT the Palantiri I don't really know what it means: too near... It would seem logical to allow a stone to see the close surroundings of its fortress. I think you have nailed it, Earniel! One can place a small stone on his knees and look down from atop the tower - but with the big stone, one has to stand on the palantir's table to look down. Much more practical is to have your sweetheart in Fornost. "Bet he would have loved Fëanor installing a delete-button on those stones. ;D" LOL - the high Elf never imagined what humans could be capable of!

Brilliant Hurgon post, indeed, Serenoli! "the possessed bear!" the chant! ;D And note: all this is true... almost. and “Just the five rabbits.” ending... Awesome! I am eager to see what poor Galphant will make of it. Isn't it possible, Serenoli and Duilin, that Hurgon has left Gimilbeth's note on the table? That will give Galphant and Hador even more to think about. ;D
