I think I like the middle one of Earniel's. Maybe we can find alternatives though - it'd be nice to see other options.
Gordis - I think all yours were either movie images, or artwork drawn from movie images... and after the warning you gave me! ;D

Twas not a warning, but an advice. I am yet not sure how to follow it myself ;D The problem is that 99 percent of what you get from google are movie-based pics, with about 95 percent of them direct screenshots. Actually I put in "Connery as Gandalf" pic - manipulated picture - to show how much better Gandy he would have been, IMO.

I find it easier going over a few of the good Tolkien artists I know than googling 'Gandalf' since that indeed yields many Ian McKellens. I'll have a more thorough look tomorrow. Merry Christmas!

What's wrong with movie Gandalf - legal issues, personal dislike, a desire to distance us from the film? I thought McKellan was a great Gandalf, and my sense of Connery is that he'd have been terrible - he plays the same character in every movie. Obviously tastes differ.
You'll see I've added avatars for Galphant and Orogost. Still nothing for Aegnor, Duilin, and Thurisind.

Duilin,No, not legal issues. Personal dislike - yes, but not directed at Mc Kellan (he is a good actor and only did what he was told to do) - only at Jackson and Boyens. I hate what they did to the story. I am no great fan of Connery either (actually I am no great fan of any actor and I am not much of a movie-goer anyway), only I thought that Connery could have been better for Gandalf. He looks more ... formidable - at least in this pic. And I have another personal issue with all the movie faces - I used to love LOTR long before I saw any movies. And now (regardless of the fact that I didn't like the movies at all and watched them only once), I can't help but to see movie faces in my inner mind when I reread the book. They are just stuck there, and I can't even remember how I used to picture the characters before the movies. You have picked very good av's for Orogost and Galphant, Duilin. As for the others - just try to find a suitable picture somewhere. I can make an av out of any downloadable pic - you only have to post the link.

Gimilbeth will think about Incanus and the perils of dabbling later - in bed most likely. Now is not a good time . So, how about winding down the dinner? Why won't someone ask Gandalf about his adventures in Angmar?

Galphant just took a stab at it...

Galphant just took a stab at it... Ha - let us see how the cryptic Gandy wriggles out of this one! Val - check Angmar's latest post. It seems in Angmar Gandalf passed for an old madman. ;D

I'm thinking, I will say, that Galphant has been talking too much, and that I should give that bit to one of the other Cardolanis. Belecthor, maybe?
