(Rian speaking) Gordis - I'm trying to jump back in, and will need some coordination with you. Is it OK to have Arinya in the group, as Tarniel's tutor, trying to get some final polishing/education in? And what do you think of her speaking to Gimilbeth? Anyway, I'm trying to work back in now that the moving stuff is settling down a little, so let me know your thoughts. Obviously, if it's OK with you that Arinya is in the procession, you'll have to edit her location in your post.

Rian, the problem is that both Tarniel and Odaragariel are left behind in Cameth Brin: it is only Gimilbeth who set out to Amon Sul. So, normally, Arinya should remain with the girls. However, IF you prefer her on the journey, I see one possibility. You saw my post about horse-traders accusing Glorfindel of murder and Arinya outraged. So, it is reasonable that she decides to go to Rivendell to warn her friend/relative Glorfindel. Then she should make her preparations in haste and try to join the party before they are not too far. She can use the protection of Gimilbeth's excort as far as the Great Road - then she will turn East and Gimilbeth West. I don't think Gimilbeth will be happy to have her - but more is the fun.

whoops, I was thinking Tarniel was going along - sorry I'm so rusty on this story!! I'm thinking it will make more sense to keep her with the girls, but I might change my mind, because I had some ideas about fun possibilities on the journey. Hey, are you on AIM or any other IM thing? It might be easier for us to have a quick conversation about it that way.

Sorry, Rian, no AIM's for me - I have a really rotten modem connection now. So, please, use pM's or just let's discuss it here. Anyway is fine with me, whether you -I mean Arynia- go or stay.

OK - I have to go pick up the kids now, I'll mull over some ideas. While I'm gone, please let me know what you think of Arinya's comment. Do you want Gimilbeth to hear it? If so, they'll have to be closer together. If you don't want her to hear it, Arinya could say it to someone else, but I kinda liked Arinya's comment and how it referred to Gimilbeth's background, and how she should know that "nice elves don't do that kind of thing!" and that Gimilbeth should know this. What are your thoughts on that whole scene?

What are your thoughts on that whole scene? IF Arinya is staying behind, I doubt that her words could be heard at the gates where Gimilbeth was. Unless Arinya was staying near the gates - that I can correct in my last post if you want. But, note that even Gimilbeth hasn't readily believed the story. After all she IS one of the Dunedain and she knows about Elves and stories about Glorfindel in particular. So, she knows it must be a misunderstanding or blackmail, but she just loves the effect it must have on Arinya. I believe there would be no anger in her gaze, only malicious glee. As for Hillmen, they sure believe it all - Elves are rare and stories about them vague. You know what, now that I think about it, you better make Arinya take leave of the King and the girls and hurry after the departing company to go to Rivendell with them. Then she will be able to tell all that she wants to Gimilbeth in the evening I await your decision.

Rian, it is wonderful to have you back posting with us. I have missed your stories.
It felt good to be back writing again after being ill for so long. I thought it was time for an update from the spymaster and his assistant. It appears that His Majesty has "blessed" Belzagar with new visions and powers. (Why do I keep seeing both Belzagar and Authon as becoming the really nasty kind of bad spirits who would haunt barrows someday? They just seem destined for it. ;D )

Ha-ha, I always supposed that our Gimilbeth will end up in a barrow as well. ;D Nice company is gathering there! No wonder that in 3018, according to the UT, the Witch-King spent several days in the Barrows instead of hunting hobbits - he must have been discussing good ol' times over a cup of something...
Great post, Angmar! Wonderful to see you posting again.

I always liked to think they were visiting. Actually, the Tolkien Reader's Companion gives a quote in which it is said that the Witch-king was frightened of Sauron's wrath and was hiding out in the Barrow Downs. I am hoping I can find a quote later tonight. I just recently purchased the book and am not familiar with it the way I would like to be.
Gimilbeth would be a definite candidate for a barrow wight. You can pick the types out very quickly. *grins*
The bad cold I had wasn't as bad as the one last year. However, I think at the age of 65, that I don't recover quite as quickly as I once did. I'm getting more like the Witch-king all the time.
