I see you have posted, thank you, Val! Strange that a maid sent to warn the Warden about Cel's and Sulawen's delay seemed to forget it... Or is she coming shortly to whisper in the Warden's ear? What about Gandalf - is he there and where is his seat? Great posts, Earniel, and wonderful atmosphere, indeed. Kitchens come alive and Kirael is such a nice person. I hope you will tell more about her background and history in the next post.

Oops - forgot about the maid. Maybe she's just now arriving at the Warden's private quarters?? I suppose Gandalf would stay away from the head table - at first anyway. Is he still in the kitchen? Have a nice Thanksgiving all... or a nice remainder of the week, if there's no Thanksgiving in it.

I love the atmosphere, and the funny little lines that you come up with (like the pig lines ) I was half toying with the idea that when the pig is served on a large platter, to let one of the guys carrying it, trip or something, causing the pig on the platter to skid into the dining hall, or tip off the table and fall on some unsuspecting dinner guest. Then the kitchen-boy would yell; "The pig's getting away!" and deep down in her kitchen, Narian would nod grimly and say:"I knew that pig was up to something," while continuing to sharper her carving knife. ;D Sadly, something like that would pretty much ruin the dinner and have repercussions so I let the idea slide. Make sure he gets past Narian, then, I'm not sure if she likes more stragglers in her kitchens. Great posts, Earniel, and wonderful athmosphere, indeed. Kitchens come alive and Kirael is such a nice person. I hope you will tell more about her background and history in the next post. Much thanks. I think I like to do that too. I suppose Gandalf would stay away from the head table - at first anyway. Is he still in the kitchen? That's where I left him in any case. Perhaps you may let him (how does the expression go) get the lie of the land? first before approaching the Warden about his presence at a less conspicuous time. By the way, Valandil, or our dear evil carthographer, will there be a plan of Weathertop or can we make up as we go? Any ideas in that direction? Have a nice thanksgiving to those in America!

Reply of the Evil Cartographer: I think Val was planning to draw Amon Sul layout. Right, Val? If you want me to do it, I will need quite extensive directions. What we have now is that the lowest habitable level of the Tower (round in section) is subdivided into 2 cemi-circular parts: the biggest part is the Dining Hall, or the Great Hall, and the smaller one is the Reception room (Warden's "Throne" room). High-high atop the Tower is the Palantir room. The guests are housed not in the tower itself, but in other buildings: Gimilbeth, Barund and Hurgon - in the East Wing. Likely Cel and Sul and Beleg don't live in the Tower either. There should be a place for tower guards and cavalry barracks and stables for about 100 horses in all. Kitchens are likely to be a quite separate building - one storey- near a source of water.

Oh, that's a great idea - just have it happen behind the scenes, and they have to pick it up off the floor and dust it off and hide the damage with garnishes, etc., before bringing it out to be served

Let Gandalf catch the flying pig! Isn't he a Maia, after all?

WAUU.. GUYS, what a find! THERE IS A MAP OF WEATHERTOP IN FONSTAD"S Athlas of Middle-Earth!tolkiengateway.net/wiki/WeathertopClick on the map and see the large version I am putting it in the Geographical info thread I propose to use the peculiar-shaped flat summit within the inner walls for our contemporary Amon Sul fortress. Let us suppose that both the escape path and the lower outer wall were built by Beleg later - after the disaster of 1356. Is it OK, Val and others?
