Sorry, we're right in the middle of intense negotiations for the accident that we were in - a semi-truck rear-ended us, hitting 5 of our vehicles (truck, trailer, and 3 quads) and totaling 4 (one out of the 5 is repairable). It's very complex, and they finally got back to us with an offer, and of course there's mistakes, and we're trying to scurry 'round to get figures to show they're wrong, and they're trying to extort us to accept the offer early by taking away our handicapped-access rental van, etc. etc. Plus I'm still in 3 times a week physical therapy, and it's stepped up in intensity, so I'm in more pain than usual, and it looks like I'll have permanently less use of my injured foot I'm going to see the surgeon Wednesday, and we'll probably discuss another surgery vs. just accepting what use I have. I'm fairly optimistic that we'll settle the insurance stuff by the end of this week, and that would free me up for some writing.

Rian, pity to hear all that... I hope something could be done about your foot. Duilin, Val - I think it is not unreasonable to accept that the roof is accessible. 1. It will make a more interesting story. 2. Technically you can't really use the Palantir to view the movements of the enemy who is already at hand, right at the walls. A look-out on the roof would be handy. 3.Moreover, I have always pictured Elendil gazing West from the top of the Tower, not through the Palantir. More...ahem romantic. About Castamir - I agree to Duilin's ideas. I liked Galphant post very much. Immediate matters: I will leave a place-holder for Gimilbeth, not to hold the game - I don't think I will able to fill it before the end of the week.

If nothing else, we should certainly consider that the faulty "artist's conception" sketch that we have come across somehow omitted the balcony around the high chamber - at the high chamber level. I suppose the artist either forgot about that - or else was trying to reconstruct what the tower must have looked like - sometime after it was destroyed in 1409. Whether from incomplete accounts, or dim memories, or just theories - we will probably never know... (but I still think Elendil would have used the palantir - the better to see you with! )

(but I still think Elendil would have used the palantir - the better to see you with! ) Hee hee! So... will there be an "observation deck" sort of level, where Gandalf can take Vorondariel and the Elves up to for a visit? That scene is more or less resting on whether there is that balcony. Otherwise, he'd have to take them somewhere else for their "history lesson".

But I propose to have not a balcony around the High Chamber but a little almost open observation area on the top of the roof, like here: It is more dangerous and fun to climb down from there!

That's great, Gordis Whatever you decide upon is fine. As long as there's a place for Vorondariel to go, she's just going along for the ride. I'd like to make a post for her soon.
