I encourage anyone who has written stories or who wants to comment on other peoples' stories to join Henneth Annun and participate. Who knows? Your story might be one of those nominated for MEFA or the Mithrils in the future.


I have just posted the prologue on Fanfiction.net. FF is a little slow sometimes, I'm told, so it will be a while before the profile displays the new story.

There appears to be an issue with dashes. FF.net gets rid of them. I don't know why. I hope this will not make the sentences look too strange. There appears to be no way out of this problem. I also had to shorten the introduction. The space they allow is much more limited than OSA.

Here is something to keep in mind. I always thought that there were some real jerks and punks on FF.net who can be insulting. If anyone says anything unpleasant, don't let your feelings be hurt. Consider the source. I've read on Henneth Annun that a group of these soreheads is planning to attack a fanfiction site. I don't know which one it is, but the managers of HASA feel that there might be some attacks on Henneth Annun. Got to wonder about some people and their minds. Anyone who would do this is sick.

Read an example of the pettiness and spite out there. This was written by Ang, the technical person on HASA.

Gordis, I considered putting the maps up as images, but the MERP maps are still under copyright, as far as I know. I will write to Ang about this and get it clarified, so we will know how to proceed. I will wait until I hear from her.

The maps for The Circles were based on Karen Wyn Fonstad's map, but I completely redid them over and added new details, so they are original creations done by me. (Not the world's best creations, but people can see where the armies are aligned).

I will add the new link to the HASA site.

But the map of the North in the link I asked to post is not MERP. It is Tolkien's own drawing (or is it Christopher's drawing?) that I have modified and colored. So this one is not copyrighted, I think.

Gordis, I will put that one up for sure and wait and see what Ang says about MERP maps.

I heard back from Ang in regard to the MERP maps being included in the story on Henneth Annun. Here is what she said:

1. HASA will not knowingly store on its server a copyrighted image.
2. HASA does not preemptively prevent authors from linking images into their
own stories.
3. HASA expects that authors will obtain appropriate permission from content
creators to make use of their creations (copyrighted or not).
4. HASA will remove from public view anything that has been inappropriately
taken from an original content creator or which HASA deems to be
inappropriate for display on the site.
So, applying this in your case, the map has been created by one of the NKW
who gives permission to link the image into one of your stories. It sounds
like it would be an innocuous image, though it might distort the page,
depending on how big it is. If Tolkien estates or New Line Cinema comes
stomping in saying it is too close to the original, I may have to ask that
it be removed.

I would say that posting Gordis' original map would be acceptable on HASA, just not the original MERP maps.

Let's have some public discussion on this first, though.

We sure can post the Cameth Brin map - it is entirely made by me - only pieces of houses are taken from Tharbad and Edoras maps - but all is rearranged in a way to make it unrecognizable.

Palace plans are mine 100%.

The other maps... hmm .. I don't know. They are MERP and therefore must be copyrighted. I don't know the rules here.

However small portions of the maps with movements of different persons can be posted, I think. Or the map of Duinand Ostinand and Marugond. They are of no use to anyone but the readers of the story. What do you think?
