Val, from someone less adept, as you put it, at the history, politics and geography, I'd say it works very well. Gordis, Hurgon is about 38 to 40 years old. He is not strictly Dunadan, though. I believe the Ferniks were descended from farmers native to the place, so he is more likely related to the Hillmen. He did have a Dundan uncle, if that helps. Wandering Dwarves- This is tough, I never thought about dwarf ages. I mean, do they age at the same speed as humans, or the same speed as elves, or somewhere in between or what? My ignorance on dwarves is really quite fascinating. Hroim, leader, (in human years) 57 years old. Truin, his son, 17~20 years old (yes, his age does vary a lot) Gere, 23. At present, they have no fixed home, but they originated from the northern Misty Mountain area.

Serenoli - from memory, I think Dwarves are considered "in their prime" between about 40 and 240 - then they live to be about 250.
EDIT: Also - in the royal line of the Longbeards (House of Durin - the ones we're most familiar with), almost all the Kings had their heir right around the age of 100. I think Tolkien even says that if they were a little older, it's only because they had a daughter first. I can check my sources if you like, but I believe it's also in POME. However - I don't think non-royals would be bound to follow such strict customs - and different groups can easily have very different customs.

I think the prologue was very good overall. I had a coupla minor changes that came to mind as I read it, but they were only minor. If I don't get around to posting them, it's no big deal. But overall, it was good - not too much "politics" and dates for me Gordis - I think the "cast of characters" is a great idea, and I'll fill mine in shortly. The only problem I can think of is that we might have to add to it as the story progresses and changes to different areas - as long as we can still add to it where you want to publish it, that's fine.

Maybe we just call it: "A Partial List of Characters"?? We've probably left off a few anyway.

OK, though maybe "List of main characters" is better
Or maybe "List of main original and canon characters" is better still, as, for instance, I want to include Malvegil - but he will hardly ever appear. Maybe the same for Menelcar-Romendacil of Gondor + Valacar + Eldacar as they are referred to.

Then, Gordis, lets make Hroim a nice old 187 or so, his son Truin would be 60 and Gere 63~65.

Um... I don't know how much time it took you, but could I trouble you for another one or two? * Arnor from 3320 Second Age to 861 Third Age. * Maybe not necessary - but Arthedain, Cardolan and Rhudaur from 861 to 1300. If you cannot make the time - I certainly can't complain about that. Gordis - just now saw that you edited them in the very next day! NICE! I had been waiting for a new post to show up, but it makes sense you just inserted them, since they come before. "Angmar Rules", huh? Maybe you need to show one more... a map of 1976! ;D
