With the start of "Trouble in the North" (tentative title), the game begins a critical phase. A lot will be happening by the end of the northern foray that will usher in some cataclysmic events for the kingdom of Rhudaur and the royal family.
THE CALENDAR FOR THE EVENTS IN THE NORTH (Also tentative)
November 28 - Broggha's 500-man plus army leaves Cameth Brin. This contingent also includes the venerable General Nimruzir, his small staff, and his escort of 20 men (plus attendants - number is vague - can be adjusted); Lord Belzagar, Lord of Dol Duniath, his small staff and an escort of 30 (Belzagar is cautious) and attendants (number here is also vague); an unknown number of men from the Rhuduarian army (?)
December 4 - The army reaches Dol Duniath, the ancestral home of the lords of Dol Duniath. Lord Belzagar rallies 100+ of his own men-at-arms. The army rests here two days.
December 6 - The army resumes marching. (Journey to Imlad Mitheithel to take 2 - 3 days.)
December 8 or 9 - Meeting with the Seneschal of Imlad Mitheithel to collect another 100-200 men. Army rests one day, then resumes marching north.
December 9 or 10 - The army resumes marching.
December 9 or 10 - January ? - This period covers the actual march to Dol Hithlaer. The route the army will be following will be the scarcely visible road that skirts the foothills of the Misty Mountains, taking 16 - 20 days to reach Dol Hithlaer.
Around December 30 or January 1st - Broggha's army finally reaches Dol Hithlaer. Here things really go up in the air datewise on determining how long the siege will last. It will be easy enough for them to make a battering ram, since there should be plenty of wood. However, I am uncertain about the ability to use catapults and such devices, for with only a pack horse train, they could not haul heavy counterbalances for the rock throwers.
January 5? - Commencement of the Siege of Dol Hithlaer.
January 10? - The commander of the fortress sues for peace (after all, this is only a token show).
Readjusted date - January 30 - February 5 - After a period of administrative transfer, establishing a garrison, and rest for Broggha's army, the army begins preparations to move out.
February 20? - Army returns to Cameth Brin. The stage is now set for Broggha's ascent to the throne and the marriage to Tarniel.
I invite and encourage discussion on these events.
