Elfhild gave me the idea for including a "This Day in Middle Earth" section. March of 3019 was a memorable month.
March 1, 3019 Frodo, Sam, and Gollum begin their journey through the Dead Marshes at dawn. The Entmoot continues. The Three Hunters meet Gandalf the White in Fangorn Forest. They then all ride for Edoras. Faramir leaves Minas Tirith for Ithilien.

March 2, 3019 Frodo, Sam, and Gollum come to the end of the Marshes. Gandalf and company come to Edoras and the Wizard heals King Théoden. The Rohirrim ride against Saruman. The Second Battle of the Fords of Isen occurs. Erkenbrand is there defeated. The Entmoot ends in the afternoon. The Ents march to Isengard and reach it at night. March 3, 3019 Théoden and the Rohirrim flee to Helms Deep. The Battle of the Hornburg is begun. The Ents destroy Isengard.

No... March 15 was a good day. A Great Day! A GLORIOUS Day!!! It sends a strong message that the Forces of Evil, though they may grow and prosper for a time - will fail in the end. Isn't that something to be happy about? ;D

Forget that convoluted, alternative history written by that Oxford professor in the mid-20th century. The "elf" he always quoted was a notorious liar who falsified the entire early Middle-earth history. The real version of the story has been found, and work is being done to translate it into English.
In the one, true accurate account (called "The Circles"), Angmar the Great was the hero of the Battle of Pelennor Fields and lived on to fight another day. ;D

Well... it doesn't fall on their June 21, but...
The Summer Solstice on the Middle-Earth calendars of both the Hobbits and the Dunedain is a "stand-alone" day - apart from any month. The Dunedain called it "Mid-year's Day" - the Hobbits also call it that, as well as "Overlithe".
So... Happy Mid-Year's Day, everyone! ;D
