In my absence, Elfhild has kept everyone updated about my illness. When I went to the hospital emergency room July 1, suffering from kidney stones and general malaise, I had no idea the extent of my situation. I was quite surprised when I was diagnosed with diabetes with a blood sugar count of over 1000. That was not all. An "inconsequential" sore on my leg had not responded to previous treatment, and soon turned into gangrene in spite of the doctor's efforts. Finally, they decided to do emergency surgery, clean up the wound, and put a semi-permanent IV in my arm so that antibiotics could be administered.
Besides the diabetes, I had a yeast infection in my mouth (common with diabetics), kidney stones, kidney infection, and a roaring staph infection and gangrene in my sore. The staph infection was one of those which is resistant to antibiotics, so after I was released from the hospital, I spent most of the rest of the summer going to the clinic for antibiotic treatment every day.
I know all this sounds pretty horrible, and I guess it was, but I suppose you could say I am really lucky to be alive. The sore is responding to treatment and the diabetes is more or less under control, but I still do not feel as well as I ought. That is understandable considering I have other health problems on top of all that.
I haven't quite transended completely to a wraith, but for a while there it was close. *laughs grimly*
