general thought - is part III getting about as long as parts I and II? Is it time to wrap up with an appropriate closing post ("Nauremir's parents looked at the coffin that held (as they supposed) the remains of their son. "His journey is now over," his mother said softly. But (new name of Nauremir)'s perilous journey was just beginning." or something like that - also make the close of the horse race an end of a journey?) and make a part IV? (theme is battles, I suppose - orc fights and fights at Cameth Brin)
Where is everyone? *pout* I really have the writing itch now!

I am here, Rian, but I have no time to post today. I will leave a place-holder so you can continue. Writing itch is something to be respected!
You could post about Callon learning that he is the happy chosen one - for the journey further. ;D Gimilbeth will send someone - one of the knights: Gwindor or Elvegil - to tell him that. If he starts "whining" about his wife, Gimilbeth will give him a bag of silver coins to send back to her (with Merendil).
By the way - I don't think we are close to the end of the Perilous Journeys. I think it will end with Gimilbeth etc. coming to Amon Sul. Also Agannalo should reach Carn-Dum and Merendil and K come back to C. Brin.

And another though, Rian, - you can have T&A meet Serenoli's dwarves - somewhere on the road between the Ford of Bruinen and the Last Bridge I am off for tonight... G

Yes, it comes and goes, and when ya got it, ya wanna write! Thanks The kids are home now, though, so I prob. can't write yes, I was thinking of hooking A&T up with the dwarves for some interesting situations ... (n.b. - non-native English speakers, you might want to use A&T instead of T&A, because the latter is slang for, let's say, "bosom and derriere", as in, "Hey, that was a great movie, but I wish it had more T&A in it!" ) I know the journey would end at Amon Sul, but I was just concerned about it getting too long. I guess it doesn't matter, though, and it makes sense to go all the way to A Sul.

Also - remember the other threads are a bit "compressed" - they actually run much more than three pages, by posts. ~ Merendil PS: What I meant to say was... Brochenridge approach place-holder is filled.

PS: What I meant to say was... Brochenridge approach place-holder is filled. Way to go, buddy! I also have filled an Eryndil place-holder. The one I just put in "Perilous Journeys" today.

Say - a question here: With Algeirr having been hung on the road, for being a thief... does this mean Eryndil (me again! )went too easy on him, when he caught him and the other boys in the act, red-handed? By rights, should he have hung the lot of them? Does Callon think so - and not respect Eryndil for it? Just thinking... maybe too much. The thought crossed Callon's mind ... but being a reasonable person and not knowing how matters of the king are solved, and not one to take a life hastily (remember Gandalf's quote about taking lives?) he thought that it was probably a wise decision, although thinking they got off easy for what they did. And he would also think that justice caught up with Algeirr anyway through Gimilbeth. People, could you please comment on my post #30 about the bears? I'd be glad to change the animal if you guys think it's too many bears. And I think I made the camp too "quiet", anyway - as I pointed out, 17 horses is a lot of horses! I think perhaps they'll have to abandon secrecy, although they would certainly have watchmen out. Val, how would you have Eryndil set up a camp with 17 horses? Rian:For the part about not doing away with the robbers when he caught them in the act, here's what was limiting Eryndil: 1. He noted that some of them looked like they were Broggha's men. That would complicate things, especially if the men were missed and Broggha got angry once they were found and pursued with great force. A royal party of about 100 might be much more easily able to execute one man - even if he was attached to Broggha - and most especially if found with the emerald necklace in question. 2. Maybe he wanted to spare Caelen the sight of the executions. 3. Also - Gordis asked me not to kill certain ones at the time. ;D About the horses and camp: Well - you would probably know better than me about how to secure horses for the night when you're in the wild. And Eryndil is somewhat experienced with them (even if his men are mostly not) - and has two good consultants (C&C) along if he needs any help. I suppose though, that they would probably rope off a little area for them - then would they also stake the horses down (prob not too reliable), or hobble them or tie them together or something? Then - if that makes a square, the rest of the camp is probably on one side of it in an adjacent square, with the campfire in the middle of the second square. Two guards (in shifts) patrol by walking the perimeter (or just barely beyond the perimeter) of the two squares - trying to stay opposite of one another, so that one is always next to the horses, and one is next to the camp, proper. Does that sound like a reasonable way to settle in for the night? They were on the road, and went maybe a quarter mile to half mile off of it, into some woods.

PS: What I meant to say was... Brochenridge approach place-holder is filled. Way to go, buddy! Isn't it nice to have someone really congenial to talk with?! ;D But indeed, Val, I am impressed by your productivity! Great posts - loved both a lot. I wondered if there would be no follow up to this abuse of commoners by the hunting party. But you caught up on it! It was a nice twist with Eryndil's reprimand - I thought Eryndil was going to preach on the proper behavior for pregnant women, not on the abuse of passers-by. ;D Also, great that Meryndil smelled the orcs. Gimilbeth didn't because she had never seen an orc, neither had she smelled one. And the stench of unwashed bodies within the party itself was already enough to cover extra smells.

Great post with Merendil, Val, and ooh, very strict telling-off for poor Caelen. Odare would have been happy could she have heard what was being said - considering she was the one that upturned the man's apple's in the first place and is getting off scot-free...
Elfhild, I see you have managed to sneak a page in. Very good post. Odare has missed her best buddy. I have posted for Hurgon with a significant chunk of it about Nauremir, so any edits, do tell. And continue along the whole Helmir-tries-to-escape line if you feel like it, I have left it open.

Also any animal who crawls on the ground is likely to be noticed by a patrol. A Lynx high in the branches would not be detected. I hadn't thought about any patrols. Although I do believe wolverines aren't averse of climbing trees to get prey. (Gah, I keep wanting to write the Dutch name of the animal instead of wolverine. Wolverine makes such a tame word. A name that means as much as 'devours-much' seems much more fitting for this animal. ;D) Good, because I didn't make it. The weather was too good to stay indoors (and there was a baby frog in the pond, which is quite enough to distract me. ) Well, the whole point of the bear was to keep in the animal theme of part II - the bear at Cameth Brin and the bear that the WK killed, and now a bear that E & co. have to deal with, but I'll consider changing it. I had quite forgotten about the bear with the witch-king. Although one can argue that two's company, three's a crowd. Three bears may be too much of it and we don't want to give them too bad a reputation, after all. And for the attack on Caelon there are other, just as interesting alternatives. Personally I would prefer another animal for orginality's sake but honestly, as far as I'm concerned, you can still use a bear if you still wishes so, Rían. It's your characters and your sub-story. But it'll have to be a bear with some tweaking, since an ordinary bear-attack isn't realistic in the current timeframe. The noise was mostly in relation to the scenario with an enraged/hurt bear. I quite agree that bears, when hunting, can be silent enough.
