My foot surgery is in two days, and I will be out of commission for awhile. I hope to be able to check back in a month.

Well... I had hoped to REALLY break through, and write a couple more posts before leaving on a 2-week vacation, but I wasn't able. Today my oldest had a baseball game, and then I went to a wake (fairly young man - passed away at 49 from cancer - good friends with the family who were long-time active members at my church).
I'll try to get on it when I get back.

Well... I'm back!
Part of it was nice - but unfortunately, it wasn't all pleasant. On our way down, we had made really good time - covered just over 800 miles, and were making for the next big town. Then something came off a semi-truck somewhere ahead of us and hit us - totalling our minivan. It was part of a winch assembly. It struck us low in front, knocked out an engine support, pushed the engine up such that the windshield was cracked, the airbags deployed (at which time the dome lights came on). I was stunned for about 2 seconds - then realized I was still driving 70 down the middle lane of the highway with a pain in my chest and my arms reaching around the airbag to the steering wheel. The object lodged under the engine and we were dragging it. I got us over and got us stopped.
Fortunately - everyone was safe. Other than my air-bag bruises, nobody had a scratch on them.
Since then it's been a pain - dealing with our insurance company (American Family - I recommend against) and the rental car companies. But we're home now.
