Okay, I've put in another post, this one from Galphant. Correct as necessary. Mostly I just wanted to get my guys to Amon Sûl, so again there's not much actual action.

Nice post, Duilin. So, Galphant got some new ideas?
Well, I have posted, you have posted, now WHERE is Val?

Serenoli, how are you? - a Hurgon post maybe? Gimilbeth will now tell him to finalise the painting in one day, as she has to show it to Malvegil via the Palantir on the 17. Will Hurgon be ready?

Val is HERE! Sorry everyone - I was unable to connect to the internet from my main computer for about 10 days. This is the one where I have all my documents, etc - and I didn't want to move in and take over my wife's computer either. So - let me catch up with my reading, get my head back into things here, fix a few things I wanted to fix on previous posts, then I'll get some things going. I've been logging in from time to time, so I've managed to do some of the reading, but haven't really absorbed or digested everything yet. Gordis - I liked that post of Gimilbeth's first use of the Palantir. Very good reaction to her initial contact with another person through it. One thing - maybe change the time to mid or late morning, and have it be after breakfast? Or use a different word besides 'dinner' for the meal. I think the main dinner will be late in the day on six days of the week, but at noon on Friday - just one way to distinguish the day Duilin - you're the one whose posts I most need to get caught up on, so I'll need a little time there. You've sure jumped in with both feet, and I appreciate it! I'll have to find a good chunk of time and really give a close look at all your posts. Anyway... I'm back in the game now. Just give me a few days to re-orient myself and then I'll see where I most need to post.

By the way, have you noticed, Val and Duilin, that in my post I implied that the Palantir is never left unattended, even at night. The Warden, apprentice-warden and one or two assistants take 6 hours shifts. Is it OK?

The Warden, apprentice-warden and one or two assistants take 6 hours shifts. Is it OK? Gordis - I noticed, and I think that is correct. It's sort of like guard duty - there's always someone on watch. So when you have something with the capabilities of the Palantir, your watch through it would be unending. Also - it would be always guarded, and the guards would be especially on alert when there were visitors to Amon Sul. I don't say this to spoil anyone's fun, but just to be realistic. The Dunedain are NOT going to be sloppy or lax about taking care of the Palantir or carefully controlling its use. PS: I don't know about the open window at the guard room though. It gets pretty COLD around here. A bell could be at a different place - below the guard room, or even above the high chamber. Also - I have in mind for a small room for messengers and others who might have shifts watching the Palantir, just adjacent to the guard room. I'll try to get back on my sketches.

It's good to have it guarded. It is certainly more likely than not being guarded. I'm going to guess that Galphant expected something of the kind, and that this is why he's hired two rogues to help him. I don't know that they have a precise plan worked out yet. If it weren't hard, though, it wouldn't really be worth doing. Some sort of massive distractions are going to have to be in order, I should think. It still might not work.

Duilin, I suggest your guys D&T meet Barund, have a goblet of mulled wine and learn a lot from him - most importantly that nobody is allowed into Palantir room, without Malvegil's permission. Barund would brag about saving Gimilbeth and being in favor of his lady . Then they can go to the kitchens and find Hurgon, get him drunk as well and learn a lot more - that is about Tarniel's portrait and its future uses. Also in the kitchens they might meet the Elves and the Dwarves. Aegnor also? The night of drinking and getting together might be very amusing Sounds OK? Meanwhile there is this dinner for the High and Mighty. (I imagine it as a "business dinner" this time - with some political talk). I think this time Barund and Hurgon won't be invited. Also no children and maybe no youngsters: no Beleg's younger siblings and Calafornien. Only the Warden and his son, Cardolan Council members, Cel and Sul, Beleg, Gimilbeth. Also Gandalf is likely to be there. OK? I can start on the dinner, if I have time. What do you think?

That sounds like a good start. Perhaps Herunarth can be sent to the children's table with Beleg's siblings and Calafornien.
It might make sense for Barund to chill with Aegnor - they're of around the same social level, whereas Duilin and Thurisind, posing as servants, will seem to be of a lower one to Barund. More thoughts later...

Yes, you are right, Duilin. Better make D&T find Callon and Hurgon and start drinking at the kitchens, while Aegnor makes friends with Barund (the latter might make an opening step himself, as he knows his Lady is eager for more info on Cardolani). Then the whole company, already inebriated enough to forget social distances , will get together somewhere and continue drinking all night. Herunarth, I guess, will be invited to the main dinner along with other Cardolani nobles (he is a guest and has to be fed somewhere - but hardly in the kitchens, as the rest of the party), but then he could leave early with Beleg. Sulawen might introduce Herunarth to her children and Calafornien- for they are of similar age. Another possibility is that an extra table for the young ones will be set aside - as the main table has become crowded with new guests.
